Could Glutathione Therapy be the Answer to Parkinson’s Disease?

There are countless families across the witnessing the tragedy of Parkinson’s Disease.

They sit by and watch loved ones slip further and further away each and every day.

It is a difficult thing to sit by and watch a family member move through the stages of the disease. There may be no cure for this disease yet but…

… there is hope on the horizon. Many people are gaining relief from the debilitating symptoms of the by undergoing glutathione therapy.

Parkinson’s is a slow moving disease that affects the substantia nigra, an area of the brain. The disease progressively destroys brain cells and the prognosis is usually very bleak indeed.

Free radicals (reactive oxygen species) are produced by the oxidation of dopamine; a neurotransmitter and these free radicals are known destroyers of neurons. Dopamine is used by the substantia nigra area of the brain as a chemical messenger and communicates with another region of the brain, the straitum.

When cells in the substantia nigra area of the brain die dopamine levels in that area the dopamine level of both areas are effected.

substantia nigra

Unfortunately most drugs that are used to treat Parkinson’s, while temporarily mimicking dopamine do nothing to restore normal brain function or the continued destruction of brain cells.

These drugs are usually helpful at first by reducing the symptoms of the disease but given time their effect wanes. Another problem with many of these drugs are the side effects such as confusion, nausea, hallucinations, and worse.

Glutathione therapy could be the answer to these drugs for three specific reasons.

#1 – Dopamine Sensitivity – Glutathione therapy works to increase the brains sensitivity to dopamine. Though glutathione does not actually raise the dopamine level in one suffering from Parkinson’s it allows the dopamine in the brain become more effective.

#2 – Protection – Glutathione is the most powerful antioxidant in our body and it protects the brain from damage by free radicals.

#3 – Detoxification Power – Glutathione works to detoxify the body, riding it of free radicals and other toxins. Studies have shown that those suffering from Parkinson’s have difficulty detoxifying the body.

For glutathione therapy to be beneficial it is of the utmost importance that you understand the value of glutathione supplementation. You cannot simply take raw glutathione and see any benefit. Our digestive system breaks down raw glutathione long before it can reach our cells.

In order for glutathione therapy using supplements to be effective it is important that you take a supplement that provides all of the precursors to glutathione. Taking a supplement that provides these precursors gives our own body the ability to produce its own glutathione and give those suffering from Parkinson’s and other diseases the chance that they need.
